We’ve raised our eyebrows, opened the files, and politely side-eyed just about everyone aboard the Mortuga Submarine.
But every good mystery needs someone brave enough, stubborn enough, and just nosy enough to solve it.
For *The Mermaid Mask*, that means Detective Grimoire and Sally: the returning investigative duo at the heart of the case. One brings calm, considered detective work. The other brings sharp instincts and sharper comments. Together, they’ll question suspects, connect clues, test theories, and try to work out exactly what happened to Captain Mortuga.
So before launch, it’s time to open their case files.
Known for: A steady hand, a thoughtful mind, and an impressive ability to keep asking questions long after everyone else has started acting suspicious. At least, that’s what it says on his business card.
First impression: Calm, curious, and quietly determined. Grimoire is the kind of detective who knows the smallest detail can crack a whole case wide open.
Grimoire brings a grounded, relentless energy to even the strangest mysteries. He listens, observes, and gently pulls at the loose threads everyone else desperately hopes he’ll ignore. Aboard a submarine full of secrets, half-truths, and deeply suspicious people, that patience matters more than ever.
Thoughtful, humane, and determined, with a healthy side of wry humour, Grimoire is exactly the person you want in a room where everyone has something to hide.
SFB Games still won’t tell us Grimoire’s first name. We have asked. One day we will find out. Mark my words.

Known for: An eye for detail, a very low tolerance for nonsense, and the ability to say what everyone else is thinking.
First impression: Sharp, funny, and switched on. Sally feels like the person most likely to notice the clue hidden in plain sight, then roast Grimoire for missing it.
Sally has come a long way since the gift shop in *Secret of the Swamp*. She’s sharp, funny, and dangerously switched on: the kind of person who spots the clue, says the thing everyone else is thinking, and then keeps digging.
Where Grimoire is measured, Sally is instinctive. Where he circles the question, she pokes it with a stick until she’s certain it has been thoroughly poked. Aboard the Mortuga Submarine, her warmth, bite, and absolute refusal to let nonsense slide are not just welcome.
They’re essential.
Also, her *Tangle Tower* redesign was based on an onigiri. No seriously, look at her.
