The Story Behind the Outfit

White Night's Ballet

A Last Dance for Freedom

The first time the mechanical ballerina opened her eyes, she stood at the center of the Golden Court's most magnificent stage. Gear-shaped chandeliers hung from the dome above, and walls of jewels reflected her black dance dress, her flawless form, and her movements as precise as the turning of a clock.

"She will never stop. She will dance for the king forever."

She was a gift from the artisans of the Golden Age to the Titan King. Deep within her chest, an endless-motion core powered the wind-up mechanism that raised her onto pointe, carried her through each turn, and drove her to dance without pause.

At first, she captivated everyone who saw her. They said her steps were more precise than clockwork and more constant than the paths of the stars. They hailed her as a miracle of the Golden Age.

Yet every new wonder eventually draws the gaze away from the old.

The applause gradually faded. Guests no longer lingered to watch. Praise, too, slowly receded into silence, like waves retreating from the shore.

Only she remained at the center of the stage, spinning through the same cycle again and again.

Her black skirt bloomed like a fragment of night, and like a silent cage. She knew no exhaustion and understood no rest. Bound by the laws of gears and wind-up mechanisms, she could only offer the same flawless dance to an empty hall.

Until one day, in the middle of a turn, a strange thought passed through her heart.

Why can't I stop?

The question was small and fleeting, yet it fell into the mechanism of her being like a grain of sand in a machine. Tiny, but impossible to remove.

From that moment onward, with every rotation, she began to listen to herself.

At last, in the reflection of the jeweled walls, she saw it: a faint golden glow deep within her chest.

There was no warm heartbeat there.

Only countless gears turning in silence, and a wind-up key that had spun endlessly day and night.

That was the source that forced her onward.

After that, every step was no longer merely a step. Each movement became a silent struggle between herself and the command engraved into her very existence.

The wind-up key still pushed her forward, but within that endless cycle of spins, another faint will slowly began to awaken.

Her turns began to drift from their perfect angles. When she leapt, she lingered in the air for just a moment longer, as though her rigid body was reaching toward the boundary of the "self."

The artisans soon discovered the anomaly.

They brought her back for recalibration. Cold instruments corrected every deviation, restoring her movements to their original perfection.

But though they could repair the errors in her steps, they could no longer return her to the state of a dancing puppet.

As they dismantled her, she finally understood.

This body had never belonged to her.

No one watched.

No one needed her.

And yet, a force that would never end still compelled her to dance endlessly through the fading days of the Golden Age.

So she stopped searching for the meaning behind the dance.

She wanted only one thing.

To truly stop.

On the night before dawn, she continued dancing alone upon the empty stage.

When her next turn carried her to the center, she drove her mechanical toes into the seams of the floor with all her strength. Metal scraped against stone, releasing a sharp cry of anguish, and the force of her spin finally broke.

Her body trembled as the gears within her came to an abrupt halt. Her joints strained to the point of breaking.

But her steps had stopped at last.

In that moment, silence and morning light descended upon her together.

Slowly, she opened the plate over her chest and grasped the golden shaft of her mechanical heart.

With her own hands, she broke the endless-motion core in two.

The glow faded.

The wind-up key loosened.

The strength that had sustained her for so long receded like the tide.

Her body gradually grew still, yet for the first time, a smile resembling relief appeared upon her face.

Then, with the last of her remaining strength, she rose onto pointe once more and performed the first dance that truly belonged to her.

It was slow and unrefined.

She fell before completing even half a turn. Her raised arms trembled as their mechanisms caught and stalled.

Yet every imperfect movement came not from a command.

It came from herself.

When the morning light streamed through the dome, she knelt at the center of the stage, unable to move again.

The gear chandeliers continued to turn.

The jeweled walls continued to shine.

Only her gaze had never been more peaceful.

"She will never stop. She will dance for the king forever."

The vow once bestowed upon her as an honor finally crumbled into dust.

By choosing to stop, she proved that she had truly existed.

With her final dance, she bid farewell to the world.

At last, her dance had a beginning.

And an end.

And that was true freedom.

The Inspiration Behind the Design

The design concept behind White Night's Ballet is "a mechanical ballerina bound to an endless dance."

To express the image of an endless dance, the outfit portrays a ballerina spinning forever within a magnificent mirror frame. She dances without rest, burning through the years until the world around her gradually loses its color. She was meant to become "the most beautiful dancer in the mirror"—the ideal others envisioned for her.

To become light enough to dance forever, she sacrificed her magnificent yet heavy wings. Her limbs were transformed into resilient works of metal, and her feet, raised eternally en pointe, would never touch the ground again.

Was such a price worth paying?

Her answer changed with the passing of time.

The glorious palace eventually became ruins. The audience who once admired her a hundred years ago disappeared, leaving only the ballerina herself, still turning endlessly within the mirror.

At last, she broke free from the frame and brought an end to a performance that no one was left to witness.

Through its art direction, White Night's Ballet seeks to capture this story: the elegance of the dancer, the sorrow of the sacrifices she made, and the fleeting moment before she finally reaches freedom.

The Details Behind the Design

Dress: No Final Curtain

The outfit takes ballet aesthetics as its central inspiration. Refined through the passage of time, it embodies a calm and confident elegance, like a gemstone whose brilliance cannot be diminished by age, but instead grows more radiant with every facet polished.

The skirt is adorned with expansive diamond details, evoking the timeless and dignified beauty of the Black Swan ballet. Its mirror-frame-like surface serves as the focal point of the design. Viewed from above, the dancer stands at the center of the skirt, encircled by the mirror frame along the hem, capturing the decisive moment when she breaks free from its confines.

Body Paint: Wishless Song

The outfit features a unique pair of "wings": wings that have already been broken and taken away from her. The traces where they once grew from her back have vanished, leaving behind only diamond-like cuts. Feathers drift around her like fragments of a shattered mirror, no longer able to carry the swan toward a free flight.

This is the price the dancer of the Golden Age paid to make her movements lighter. Yet perhaps, along with those wings, she also surrendered a part of her freedom, all so that the most beautiful dance could be preserved forever within the mirror frame.

Her "heart," hands, and feet have become flawless works of craftsmanship. And yet, they are hollow, emptied of warmth, heartbeat, and color.

Shoes: Unceasing Steps

The outfit includes a pair of "scattered" ballet shoes, symbolizing her escape from the restraints of the mirror frame. These shoes, which once kept her feet forever suspended above the ground, have finally reached their final curtain call.

Their ribbons unfurl alongside fragments of shattered glass from the mirror frame, drifting away together toward freedom.

Gloves: Glory to Dust

Socks: Uncooled Dream

To convey the impression of a "mechanical will tempered through countless trials," the gloves and socks receive special treatment in their design. Cut crystal serves as the primary material, complemented by delicate metal ornaments that accentuate their refined structure.

These details are traces of the price she paid, marks that remain even after she has broken free and can never be fully restored. Yet this time, she is no longer bound by another's command.

Wherever she goes, she can finally follow the true voice within her heart.

The Concept Behind the Ability

The ability of White Night's Ballet is centered around the reconstruction of memory and space.

The stylized ability Spinning Reflections weaves together the dancer's former glory and fading memories. When activated, time seems to pause as spotlights gently illuminate the stage around her, creating the sensation of stepping into a scene preserved from the past. Effects such as drifting shards of glass flow around her like ripples across the surface of time, reflecting fragments of forgotten moments.

At the heart of the ability lies the seamless fusion of ballet's elegance and the freedom of space. The wall-gliding mechanic transforms vertical movement into a graceful dance, allowing Nikki to move through the world with the lightness of a ballerina. Meanwhile, interactions within the Brightnight Mirror Realm invite participants to become part of this dance of memories, creating an elegant dialogue between time, mirrors, light, and shadow.

The Story Behind the Outfit

Dawning Heartlight

So Said the Divine Child

She was born in the narrow space between the divine and the living.

A thousand years ago, twilight settled over Dragon's Lair Peak. Echeros taught her to carve wooden figures, and spoke of reincarnation, of all living beings, and of the order a god was meant to protect. But the young child was easily distracted. With awkward, uneven strokes, she carved two figures instead: one was the future self she imagined, and the other was the first creation she would make when she became a god.

She wanted shining hair and broad wings. She wanted to soar above seas of white sand and witness flowers blooming beneath endless snow. Just as Echeros's first creation had been Lumie, hers would be a creature from legend, swift enough to outrun every wind in the world. It would carry her to the far edge of the desert, where bustling markets overflowed with merchants selling gemstones and fragrant spices.

She lifted her face and asked, "Will I become a god as great as you one day?"

Echeros fell silent for a moment. Then He gently brushed a hand across her head and asked, "Do you wish to become a god?"

Without hesitation, she nodded.

Back then, she did not understand what it meant to be divine. In her heart, she was only asking a simple, innocent question.

What will my future be?

"Dear one... do you wish to find it?"

A strange voice drifted through the twilight, as light as the evening wind.

Soon after, Echeros never returned.

Year after year, the wooden Lumie remained by her side. She watched the Parksolians come into the world, grow old, and pass on. In secret, she descended the mountain to help them build their homes and guide wandering souls toward their next journey.

Then one day, she discovered a thin crack running through the wooden figure.

So even something left behind by a god could slowly wear away.

Then where were all living beings, destined to fade in time, meant to return?

And who was she meant to become?

"Dear one... have you still not found it?"

The voice echoed once more within her dreams.

But no one answered.

Only the years grew longer, and the waiting colder.

Lost within an eternity without answers, she slowly came to believe that if she became a true god, she would finally free herself from doubt. Then she would understand everything.

And so, she forgot the charge entrusted to her.

Following that voice, she walked down the mountain.

What happened afterward had become little more than scattered fragments. The child of god remembered only countless eyes becoming mirror after mirror, until she herself was imprisoned within their reflections.

She raised her head, searching for her heart amid the golden shadows, only to find it covered in scars, each one resembling the crack that had long ago appeared upon the wooden Lumie.

From the emptiness within her, hatred took root.

It sank into her very bones like an anchor, reminding that lonely soul that she had not yet completely faded away.

Did she not know what hatred was?

It was a poisonous fire that fed on wounds. Once it took root, it grew through every crack and could never be stripped away.

Did she not know what it meant to fall?

It was a phantom chased even at the cost of burning away the road home, mistaking a plunge into the abyss for flight.

Yet within that endless dream inside the cage, hatred became the only answer she could hear. Even knowing it would one day consume her as well, it still felt kinder than silence.

"Dear one... do you still wish to find it?"

She clenched her teeth and refused to listen.

Until, at the end of the cycle, she saw a long-forgotten figure reflected in that pink-haired girl.

Broad wings.

Shining hair.

The future she had carved a thousand years ago with clumsy hands.

The countless reflections surged toward her, each asking the same question.

Do you no longer wish to become a god?

Will you betray His expectations?

She simply gazed at that other "self."

A cool wind swept across the summit of Dragon's Lair Peak, and twilight settled over the mountains once more.

Then, at last, she remembered.

On that day, Echeros had never told her whether she would become a god.

He had only rested a hand upon her head and asked,

Do you wish to become a god?

From the very beginning...

He had entrusted the answer to her all along.

One by one, the countless mirrors peeled away.

The drifting dreams became lighter than feathers.

And for the first time in a thousand years, she heard her own voice.

"Congratulations. You finally found it."

The Inspiration Behind the Design

The design of Dawning Heartlight was inspired by the idea of "laying down the shackles of obsession and embracing another future."

The outfit evokes the image of "a golden bird in a gilded cage." As long as the golden bird never leaves its cage, it can live forever surrounded by splendor. Yet that eternity comes at the cost of its freedom. In the same way, the obsession with becoming a god is a gilded prison: radiant and beautiful at first glance, yet one that quietly imprisons a soul once filled with innocence and hope.

Only when she chooses to cast off those golden shackles does the dawn of a new life finally break. And when she looks beyond the gilded cage, hesitant yet resolute, she catches sight of a future unlike the one she had once imagined.

The Details Behind the Design

Dress: Before Ideals Soar

To complement the outfit's noble, radiant elegance, the dress draws inspiration from classical Greek silhouettes while exploring new possibilities through its materials and layered construction.

Its palette is centered on white and gold. Feather motifs gather across the bodice, shaping an asymmetrical strapless silhouette that flows naturally into the golden, feather-like gauze cascading from the hem. At the waist, delicate metal vines intertwine with jeweled chains, lending the design an opulent brilliance. Layers of lace, intricate woven patterns, and gold-trimmed edges enrich the skirt with depth and texture, coming together to create a gown that is both majestic and exquisitely refined.

Hair: Before Tomorrow

Elegant curls drape gracefully over one shoulder, lending the hairstyle a gentle softness while accentuating its quiet, divine nobility. At the back, a few loose strands fall naturally into place, softening the silhouette with an effortless sense of grace and understated elegance.

Backpiece: Beyond the Dreams

The wings are crafted from a harmonious blend of materials, with finely wrought metal ornaments adorning the base of each feather. Through the sweeping rise and fall of its silhouette, together with the contrast woven into its details, the backpiece presents two contrasting yet interconnected impressions.

One wing ascends, embodying rebirth, radiance, and glory. The other inclines downward, as though its brilliance has gradually faded with the passage of time. Yet even in its decline, it is not meant to evoke ruin, but the quiet, wistful beauty of something gently slipping away, its elegance lingering to the very end.

Shoes: The World Awaits

The heels are sculpted from intricate openwork metalwork, while delicate gold chains and metal leaves entwine gracefully around the ankles. Cascading strands of jeweled chains adorn the uppers, lending the design a sense of weight and quiet splendor.

At last, the beautiful "bird in a cage" has cast off its restraints. No longer mere adornments, these shoes become a symbol of the first step toward freedom.

The Concept Behind the Ability

The ability of Dawning Heartlight is centered around the golden-maned lion. Drawn by the song of prayer, the lion answers the call and appears at Nikki's side. Its mighty roar knocks back Esselings and briefly slows down nearby Whimstars. It can also dive after hovering in midair.

Rather than conventional eyes, the golden-maned lion bears a radiant rune before its face, serving as its "Eye of the Sun." Through this sacred mark, it perceives the flow of energy without relying on sight. Flames etched with marks of victory encircle its body, symbolizing unwavering loyalty, radiant light, and the triumph of hope over darkness.
