Conductors Log Day 7: Full Speed Ahead

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the next of our Conductors Logs, where our heroes reset and continue their journey!

Day 7: Full Speed Ahead

I woke the next day feeling wrecked. My bones felt heavy and for a moment I had expected to see Gunner and Pilot looming over me. The idea of them being gone had yet to properly hit me. And the worst part, people were looking to me for guidance.

Driver called me over as soon as they realized I was up. Opening the map and pointing to the upcoming intersection. One-way led to a huge loop, which had multiple facilities on it, and offered a good opportunity to recharge the train before stopping for supplies, but who knows if the supplies were any good. The other direction was risker. A huge tunnel leading who knows were, but with the potential for better loot.

Risk wasn't something we were ready to handle right now, so I was quick to make the decision to move onto the loop for a while. At least until we had enough supplies and guts again to brave the tunnel.

Brain trotted over next, asking permission to use some resources to craft an EMP pistol, which they assured us would be able to knock down the shields on turrets and maybe even incapacitate it for a bit. The best way to preventing a repeat of the situation which had gotten Gunner and Pilot killed. I patted their shoulder telling them to get on with before moving on.

When I moved into the Expedition Wagon, Shooter was looking over the paltry number of weapons we had with a grave look. With concerned eyes they urged me to allocated some of the we were hopeful to find, to upgrading and expanding our armoury. A point I was quick to agree with.

Before Shooter and I had even wrapped up this conversation, Eyes had grabbed me, dragging me to the glider. Eye was desperate to take the glider out for a spin, but were waiting on my okay before taking off, for reasons unknown. Their report was both fascinating and terrifying, there were plenty of resources in the facilities, but plenty of robots as well, and, perhaps worse, lots of passengers waiting to be rescued. Passengers that needed to be housed, fed and kept warm, drains on our limited resources.

I could feel the panic rising in my chest, a feeling which only got exasperated as everyone turned to me to make the decision on what we should do next. Ever expecting eyes watching me, waiting for my decision, as the ever-present hum of the engine filled the otherwise quiet wagon. The train barrelling down the tracks, ready for my command to stop.

I honestly didn't know what to do.
