Homecoming Update Devlog: A Helpful Sister
Hello Prospectors!
Today we'd like to introduce one of the new characters coming in the free Homecoming Update.
Meet your sister, who has just returned from Poland to help you rebuild the family legacy in Alaska. After spending years away, she's finally with you again - and she's ready to roll up her sleeves.
But before she could arrive in the game, we first had to create her!
🎨 From Sculpt to Alaska
Like every important character in Alaska Gold Fever, she started as a detailed high-poly sculpt created in Blender and ZBrush.
Once the sculpt was finished, we created a low-poly version, made the UV maps, and baked all the fine details from the high-poly model onto the optimized game mesh.
Next came texturing in Substance Painter, where we gave her clothes, skin, and accessories their final look.
The hairstyle was created separately in Blender using the Hair Tool, before optimizing the mesh and preparing everything for animation.
Finally, the character received an armature, weight painting, and several LOD levels to keep performance smooth.
The last step: Exporting everything into Unity and making sure the character looked just as good in-game as she did in the 3D software. (And yes... materials almost always look a little different once they're inside the engine! :D )
🏪 What Will She Do?
Your sister won't just stand around looking busy.
She'll become an important part of the Polish Store business introduced in the Homecoming Update.
She'll be able to collect your earnings, pick up goods and supplies, help pays employee salaries.
Think of her as your trusted business partner, helping you manage the growing family enterprise while you're out searching for gold.
We'll be showing more of new characters, gameplay, and story in future devlogs!
